„IREMO“ SPECIALISTS IMEPLEMENT THE PROJECT IN FINLAND

The consequences of a pandemic lead not only to restrictions but also to business opportunities. Lithuanians were invited to help complete the project due to delays in the construction of a waste-to-energy cogeneration plant in Salo, Finland. Representatives of the engineering services company Iremas say that it took just a few days to decide on one of the biggest projects this year.

“We are invited to complete the construction project of the cogeneration power plant. When the partners’ contractors faced the challenges of the pandemic and the construction deadlines were delayed, we received a proposal to complete the construction engineering of the facility. We had to prepare in just a few days – we signed a contract before Christmas and the first colleagues left for Finland in the last days of last year, ”said Edmundas Damaševičius, the general director of the company.

In Finland, specialists from Jonava carry out technological pipeline installation work. The works are expected to take up to four months.

The initial stage of the works involves 16 specialists – two engineers and a team of welders and installers. The company is ready to double or even triple its capacity during the project. Still, the process is slowed by a pandemic.

“It simply came to our notice then. According to the planned protocols, the employees had to take the tests in Lithuania, they took them again within 72 hours after going to Finland, and another additional test before entering the facility. Everything is done for security reasons, but it slows down the work process, ”said E. Damaševičius.

It is planned that the said power plant in Finland, where Iremas is working on it, will produce up to 90% of its waste by incineration. The island city needs energy for district heating.

According to the head of the company, Iremo specialists in Lithuania have contributed to the construction of the same type of waste-burning cogeneration power plants in Vilnius and Kaunas. This is not the first project of this type implemented in a foreign country – the company’s specialists have worked on projects in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Romania and other countries.

UAB Iremas, which belongs to the concern Achemos grupė, is one of the largest companies providing engineering services in Lithuania. The main activities of the company are the production, repair, installation, design and maintenance services of industrial equipment. The company has almost 600 employees and its divisions are located in Jonava, Kaunas, Mažeikiai, Panevėžys and Klaipėda.
